The Beauty Addict Asks: Do you like Fitflop?

Let me share to you the wonderful gift I received from my sister yesterday

fitflop,fitflop

Fitflop Rebel (Chocolate)

This is my second pair from the brand. The first was a gift from my hubby.

fitflop

I wearing a Fitflop Pietra (Bronze) with my baby Liam at the Eastwood Mall Breastfeeding Station

Get a workout while you walk. For a person who has very limited time for herself and could hardly get an exercise for a day, of course I will be hooked with that slogan.

According to FitFlop: It is biomechanically engineered to help tone and tighten your leg muscles while you walk in them. Studies at the Centre for Human Performance at LSBU show that normal walking in FitFlop sandals can help:
  • help increase leg and bottom muscle activity (up to 30%). (so you feel less ache in your hips and knees) ,
  • absorb more shock than a normal shoe (up to 22%),
  • help realign ground force reaction closer to your joints,
  • reduce foot pressure and pain from heel spurs and plantar fasciitis.
Honestly, I'm a bit hesitant because why would I spend that much for a pair of slippers? But a lot of users I know swear by it. I got intrigued so I always check it whenever we go to the mall. Maybe my hubby got curious why I was spending a lot of time inside a store scrutinizing the display of Fitflops so he bought me one :)

I've been using my Bronze Pietra for over a month now and I still don't see a huge difference. But you know what? It has become my favorite pair. Aside from being stylish, they look firm yet so comfortable when used. The straps don't hurt. Never had blisters even on the first day of usage. I can last all day walking inside a mall carrying my 7 kilo baby with it. Maybe I should start using it religiously to feel the benefits?

Whatever...I'll keep using it and I'm so excited to wear my one already. I just wish they come up with more girly designs soon.

Do you own one? What's your verdict?

Check Fitflop's Multiply Site to know where you can get it:
Retail Price range from Php 3200 - 3900++

Don Henrico's Buffalo Wings Craving

Where can you have the best buffalo wings in town? With a toddler-like excited expression, I'd say Don Henrico's!

Don Henricos,Pizza Pasta,Restaurant

Yesterday, my husband and I were craving for one so we headed at the branch nearest us located at Greenhills.

Don Henricos,Pizza Pasta,Restaurant,Buffalo Wings

Don Henrico's Buffalo Wings - Php 370 for 3 pieces

Its sweet, tangy taste is really salivating combined with the ranch dipping sauce. The size is huge but not as humongous as before as far as I can remember. But still one is enough to fill my tummy.

Just by looking at this photo makes me drool again!

Don Henricos,Pizza Pasta,Restaurant

We also ordered the Seafood Romano pizza - 10 inches Php 280.00

It's a delightful combination of squid, shrimps, red and green bell peppers, mozarella cheese and garlic butter-wine sauce. Garlic and cheese is a perfect pair!

Don Henricos,Pizza Pasta,Restaurant

Price is a little steep for me. But the food really pleased this happy couple who finally had some alone time together after 6 months! haha

I like the ambiance at this branch. They're located at a slightly deserted part of Greenhills so it's not that crowded. Service is ok too.

For the buffalo wings-lovers like me, an eat-all-you-can announcement is a GREAT NEWS!

Do you love it as well?

The Body Shop Make-up Demo: Smokey Look

One of the perks of being an LYB member is you get invited to different activities The Body Shop organize frequently. I have been a member for almost two years but I was able to attend only this month.

The topic is all about how to create a smokey eyes. As usual, I was ecstatic because I want to know if there's a new technique in achieving this look.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB

Ms. Carissa, resident make-up artist of The Body Shop SM Megamall gave us a tutorial first then we applied make-up all by ourselves.

Here's the step by step of what she taught us and the products I used:

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB
Protect your skin. Always cleanse, tone and moisturize before applying any make-up. This helps shelter our skin from the harsh elements surrounding us.

I got to try The Body Shop's Seaweed Skin Care Line which is for oily or combination skin type. I am a Tea Tree Skin Care user but I think I'm going to switch to this next. It smells so good and my skin wants it.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB

  • Clean your face in a circular motion.
  • Wipe off the dirt using a tissue or a cotton gently.
  • Apply your toner in an upward direction to prevent clogged pores. Do not apply on the eye area because the skin on that part is so sensitive.
  • Do not tug your skin. Apply all products gently.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB
The Body Shop's Oil-less Face Primer

Prime your face. A primer makes the skin smoother for an easy foundation application and helps to make it last longer.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB
The Body Shops' Flawless Foundation

Select your foundation that is the same shade as your skin tone and perfect for your skin type. Test on your jaw line when buying one. Water-based foundation for oily skin and Oil-based for dry skin.

Concealer. (No photo taken). Do not over conceal. It is used just to minimize imperfections.

Loose/Pressed powder. Use it to set your foundation.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB

The Body Shop's Eye Brow & Liner Kit

Use the lighter shade for filling-in the brows and the darker for contouring. Apply color on the arch first then blend to create a natural look for the brows.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB

Brow & Lash Gel to help set the brows and stay in place.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB

The Body Shop's Baked Eyeshadow duo. Apply the darker shade on your eyelids on a dabbing motion. Then use the lighter one to blend the harsh lines.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB

A black eyeliner is perfect for the smokey look.

Mascara (no photo). For those who have short lashes like me, the Double Volume mascara is perfect.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB

The Body Shop's Baked Blush Duo. Use the darker one to color your cheeks and the lighter one to highlight your cheekbones.

The Body Shop,Make-up Demo,Smokey Eye Tutorial,LYB

Opt to use a lighter lip color when you already have so much color in your eyes.

The Body Shop,Stop Sex Trafficking Campaign

And here's my after shot :) With my fellow LYB members Christy and Tin.

I really enjoy when make-up brands put up events like this. You get to try their products and you also get updated with the current trends in makeu-up and beauty.

I hope everyone's enjoying their weekend!

The Beauty Addict asks: Do you like orange nail color?

I wonder why most people I know do not like the Orange hue? It may be just a preference but for me, this tint is an attention-catcher. I use it when I want to highlight on something I have may it be clothes, shoes, accessories or even make-up.

When it comes to nails, I love how it makes my tiny and fat fingers a little bit pleasant to the eyes. Today is a very relaxing Saturday. I was in the mood of playing with my nails so I worn the nail polish I got from Paul & Joe two weeks ago.

Paul and Joe,Nail Enamel,Nail Polish

Paul and Joe Nail Enamel - Marrakesh 004
It's a coral red, orangy shade with hints of shimmer

Paul & Joe,Sahara Collection

I love how the color gives me energy and made me enthusiastic of what else could happen throughout the day. The shimmers added an impact to the output but not as aggressive as the red paint which I also adore.

This nail polish also has the right consistency which made it very easy to apply. It's quick drying and doesn't have that strong chemical scent (which I hate) too. Let me update you in this post after a few days on how long it lasted on my nails :)

I'm just curious...Do you like this shade? Please share your thoughts.
Happy weekend everyone!

STOP SEX TRAFFICKING Campaign by The Body Shop and ECPAT

Did you know that:

  • Human trafficking is the third largest criminal industry in the world.
  • 1.2 million children and young people under the age of 18 are trafficked every year for sexual exploitation and cheap labour, although this figure is thought to be much higher due to the underground dealings of the traffickers.
  • Reports show that sexual exploitation is the most likely purpose of trafficking.
  • Profits from this horrific trade reach US $27.8 billion per year.
  • The recent economic crisis has increased children and young people's vulnerability to trafficking and the numbers are on the increase.
  • In the Philippines, 60,000 to 100,000 children are trafficked annually (through both cross-border and international trafficking), and most of these girls are to be sexually exploited,
  • The Philippines also ranks fourth in the world in terms of countries with the highest number of prostituted children.

Distressful facts? - Yes. But are you guys already aware that there's something you can do to help?

The Body Shop,Stop Sex Trafficking Campaign

The Body Shop together with ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children For Sexual Purposes) recently launched effort against sex trafficking of children and young people. This campaign aims to influence and push governments to put more attention to it.

I also had a makeover during my visit. Here's a photo with Anton, Paul & Joe make-up artist. He used the Coral Pink lipstick on me. Isn't it lovely? The other 2 shades in the collection are pretty as well.

I was also reminded of what made me fall in love with Paul & Joe two years ago with this makeover. Their foundations are to die for. The one Anton used covered all my post pregnancy facial flaws even without concealer.

Paul & Joe,Sahara Collection

With Ms. Maan Perez, Brand Executive for Paul & Joe Philippines. Thank you so much for the invite!

If asked what's my favorite in the collection? I'd say...the Shimmering Body Lotion. I love its light and refreshing scent plus the cooling effect after application so much. The shimmers are not overpowering making the skin looks glowing instead.

The Beauty Addict's Review on Stila Smudge Pot

For those who have small eyes like me, eyeliner is one of the most important make-up to apply to give the eyes definition. I've tried a number of eyeliners in different types: gel, pencil, liquid, and cream. But so far, Stila Smudge Pot is still the best eyeliner for me.

Eyeliner,Stila Smudge Pots

From Stila: This unique gel eyeliner and shadow is an innovative alternative to traditional powder and liquid formulas. This clever little gel has an inky intensity that leaves powder shadows in the dust. A favorite for the sultry, smoky eye.

What I like about it?

Eyeliner,Stila Smudge Pots

Stila on the upper and lower lashlines

1) It glides on smoothly. Smudge it upwards quickly after application if you want to add intensity to your eye color.

Eyeliner,Stila Smudge Pots

2) It really is waterproof! No panda eyes when I wear it. It doesn't smudge or fade when dried at all (even when I put it on my waterlines). This is my trusted eyeliner for my wedding make-up gigs.

What I don't like?

Eyeliner,Stila Smudge Pots

1) It dries up easily. Well...that's why it says "close lid tightly after use" at the back. There are times I just forget :)

2) You have to apply this using a brush. Can be a hassle if you get lazy sometimes.

I'll definitely buy the other shades available.

How about you? Have you tried using Stila Smudge Pots? How was your experience?

The Beauty Addict's Tips on How to Prepare For Make-up School

How do you prepare for make-up school? I've been asked this question a lot of times by my fellow beauty addicts. Since the number of people interested in making make-up as a profession is increasing, this question deserves a post in my blog.

make-up school in manila,make-up school in manila,make-up school in manila,make-up teachers,make-up teachers,make-up teachers,make-up instructors,make-up instructors,make-up instructors,basement academy,basement academy,basement academy

This photo was taken during my graduation for the Beauty and Make-up Course at Basement Academy. With Mr. Jeave Gabiana, founder of Basement Academy and now the owner of HD Makeup Studio and Academy and Ms. Cheryl Cabanos, my make-up teacher.

Here are the FAQ's when planning to enroll in a make-up school:

1) Which make-up schools in the Philippines is the best?

Our generation is fortunate enough to have a number of reputable make-up schools to choose from. I've listed below the ones I know:

HD Make-up Studio and Academy (formerly Basement Academy)
Lower Ground 5 City and Land Mega Plaza Bldg. ADB Ave. Pasig City
09228878921

Center for Aesthetic Studies (CAS)
2nd Floor, Frank Provost Bldg.
120 Jupiter St. Bel-Air Village Makati Philippines

Make-up Forever Academy
Serendra Bonifacio Global City, Taguig

School of Fashion and Arts (SOFA)
55 Paseo de Roxas Ave. Makati City, Philippines
8928807 Loc 106/107
admissions@sofamanila.com

La Salle College International (LCI) - Manila
Grd Floor, 111 Paseo De Roxas Bldg.,
Paseo De Roxas cor Legazpi St.,
Legaspi Village, Makati City 1229
inquirymanila@clasalle.com
(632) 840-1543

Australian College of Hair Design and Beauty

formerly located at The Podium
(I heard they're opening a new school somewhere in San Juan...will update this post as soon as I confirm)

In my opinion, all of them are good. You just have to ask if they're offering what you're looking for and if their classes will fit your schedule.

I chose Basement Academy because it's near where I live and my workplace. What also attracted me most is that they also provide models to their students. I don't want to be hassled each class asking all my friends who can model for me :)

2) What products will you be needing for make-up school?

Usually, they'll be giving you a list of things you'll be needing for the course upon enrolling. However, I suggest you do not buy all of those first. Our teacher suggested products to buy for practice on our first day.

If you really can't resist on buying, here are the things that are very essential:
  • Professional Brush Set - I got my very first set from Suesh. You can also get this from several online sellers: Dollface Cosmetics, Dashe Brushes, Royal and Langnickel Brushes, ...and many more
  • Foundations - You only need two shades: the lightest and the darkest. You can always mix depending on your model's skin tone. I suggest that you check out the brands that offers a wide variety of shades. Examples are Revlon, Loreal and MAC.
  • Eyeshadows - It's cheaper and more convenient to buy a palette. One good eyeshadow palette for practice for me is the one from Coastal Scents. Click here to view the photo. It already includes 6 shades of blushes and shades you can use for eyebrows and highlighting and contouring.
  • Lipsticks - There's no need for you to buy all the shades. You just need one for each tone: red, pink, nude, brown. You can always mix to achieve a different color. You may also opt to buy a palette for convenience. Dollface Cosmetics, Cinema Secrets, Graftobian and PAC are some of the brands I know that sell lipstick palettes.
  • Mascara - I love Maybelline mascaras. Example of affordable products with good quality.
  • Other cosmetic tools like sponge, make-up removers, eyebrow shaver, eyelash curler, false eyelashes are available at any department stores.
3) How much money should you prepare for make-up school?

It depends on the school and program you've chosen. Tuition fee ranges from 16,000 to 35,000. Then add up the things you need to buy. It will depend on your preference too. My estimate would be 6,000-8,000.

I hope this post will be helpful to those who are interested in studying make-up. Special thanks to Camille for appreciating my blog!

The Beauty Addict is Back!

Seeing your baby sick. It's probably the most heartbreaking event a mom like me can experience. This week has been very challenging for me -- spending 2 days in the hospital, witnessing how tortured my son feels everytime the doctors do something to him or even touch him. If only I could take his condition, I would!

After malling last Saturday, my baby Liam started vomiting. It didn't alarm me that much because he spits up almost everyday. Sunday, he was vomiting and coughing the entire day so we brought him to his pedia the next day to have him checked. We were asked to give him antibiotics and to nebulize him. His condition seemed better after that but Tuesday night, he started to have fever. Wednesday, he was diagnosed with Viral Pneumonia so he was confined at Cardinal Santos Medical Center.

Cardinal Santos Medical Center,CSMC

Liam with IV at CSMC

Watching the doctors put the IV on him really hurts. I can't do anything to ease my baby's pain because he really needs that.

Cardinal Santos Medical Center,Cardinal Santos Medical Center,CSMC,CSMC

With his crocy stuffed toy. A souvenir from his ate nurse.

Cardinal Santos Medical Center,CSMC

Still smiling after everything he went through

I've realized that babies really shouldn't be exposed to many people or shouldn't be brought to crowded places. It's just too risky because their immune system is not yet that strong to fight the viruses circulating especially with the kind of weather we currently have. I know this already but I was just too stubborn. I was over confident that he is a healthy boy. If my mom is here, she would definitely scold me. But now I know and I've learned it the hard way.

Liam baby if you happen to read this when you grow up, I'm so sorry. Mommy won't let anything happen to you ever again. I love you so much!

This explains my absence in blogger for the past days. But now I'm back to business :)

When we were at our dating stage, we would go to all the way to Mr. Kabab in Q.C. and line-up just to have their famous shawarma. I miss those days! Good thing we found a new shawarma place to hangout.
