Love French Toast with Bananas, Granola and Maple Syrup on top in the morning!

Ingredients:

4 thick slices of your favorite bread (I used a few days old tasty bread in the refrigerator)
4 large eggs
1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Butter
Toppings of your choice (fresh berries, sliced bananas, powdered sugar, chopped nuts, whipped cream, and maple syrup)

Instructions:

Prep the Bread:

If your bread is very fresh, consider using slices that are a day or two old to prevent your French toast from becoming too soggy.

Cut your bread slices to the desired thickness. Thicker slices will result in a custardy center. Spread butter on both sides so you don't have to oil the pan later.

Prepare the Custard Mixture:

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk or cream, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined and the mixture is smooth.

Soak the Bread:

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Dip each bread slice into the custard mixture, making sure to coat both sides thoroughly. Allow excess mixture to drip off.

Cook the French Toast:

There's no need to add oil, but if you're using a non-stick pan, add a small amount of butter to prevent sticking.

Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

Serve and Enjoy:

Once cooked, transfer the French toast to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.

Serve the French toast warm, topped with your favorite toppings. Fresh berries, sliced bananas, powdered sugar, chopped nuts, whipped cream, and a generous drizzle of maple syrup are all fantastic options.

Tips:

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a dash of nutmeg or a splash of orange zest to the custard mixture.

To keep your French toast warm while cooking multiple batches, preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and place the cooked slices on an oven-safe plate until you're ready to serve.

If you're making a larger batch, you can keep the cooked French toast warm in the oven on a baking sheet.

Customize your French toast by experimenting with different bread types, such as cinnamon raisin bread or whole grain bread, for unique flavor twists.
