If you're a fan of Filipino cuisine or simply looking to explore new plant-based dishes, Tofu Sisig is a must-try! This mouthwatering vegan version of the popular Filipino dish, Sisig, is not only delicious but also packed with nutrients.
Why Choose Tofu Sisig?
Tofu Sisig is an excellent option for those seeking a healthier alternative to traditional Sisig, which is typically made from pork or other meat. Tofu, derived from soybeans, is rich in plant-based protein, low in saturated fat, and contains essential amino acids, making it a nutritious choice for vegetarians and vegans alike. Moreover, this dish carries the same bold flavors and satisfying texture as its meaty counterpart, making it a perfect choice for all food enthusiasts.
Ingredients You'll Need:
To prepare a delectable Tofu Sisig at home, gather the following ingredients:
Firm Tofu: 1 block (approximately 14 oz), cubed into small pieces or shred it to form like ground meat like what I did in my video
Red Onion: 1 medium-sized, finely chopped.
Chilies (preferably green but I don't have any so I used red): thinly sliced (adjust based on your spice preference).
Red Bell Pepper: 1 medium-sized, diced into small pieces.
Soy Sauce or Liquid Seasoning: 2 tablespoons (ensure it's a vegan version if desired).
Calamansi Juice or Lime Juice: 1 tablespoon.
Mayonnaise: 4 tablespoons.
Garlic: 4 cloves, minced.
Cooking Oil: 2 tablespoons.
Salt and Pepper: To taste.
Green onions and chili peppers (optional): For garnish.

You can buy the best non-stick pan, Famco, that I've been using for 2 years now here.
Prepare the Tofu: Gently press the firm tofu with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess water. Cut the tofu into small cubes, around 1/2 inch to 1 inch in size.
Frying the Tofu: Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the tofu cubes and fry until they turn golden brown and crisp on all sides. Once done, set them aside.
Sauté the Aromatics: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of cooking oil. Sauté the minced garlic until it becomes aromatic and slightly golden. Then, add the chopped red onion and cook until it becomes translucent.
Add Spice: Incorporate the diced red bell pepper and green chilies to the pan, and stir-fry for a few minutes until they become tender.
Seasoning: Pour in the soy sauce and calamansi juice (or lime juice) over the mixture. Give it a good stir to combine the flavors. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Tofu Integration: Add the fried tofu cubes into the pan with the sautéed mixture. Mix everything thoroughly to ensure the tofu is coated with the flavorful sauce.
Creamy Touch: To achieve a creamy texture, add vegan mayonnaise to the pan. Stir it well to evenly distribute the mayo throughout the dish.
Final Touches: Allow the mixture to cook for a few more minutes, ensuring all the flavors blend harmoniously. If you prefer a spicier kick, you can add more green chilies.
Garnish and Serve: Once cooked to perfection, transfer the Tofu Sisig to a serving dish. Garnish it with chopped green onions and chili peppers for an added visual appeal. Serve it hot with steamed rice or as a filling for tacos or wraps.
This delightful twist on the classic Filipino dish is sure to impress your family and friends, offering a burst of flavors that cater to both meat lovers and plant-based enthusiasts. So, go ahead, cook up this delectable Tofu Sisig, and savor the goodness of Filipino cuisine in a healthier, animal-friendly way!
