Facial Mists: Good or waste of money?

A few months ago, my friend and I were chatting about facial mists then her boyfriend commented.."why don't you just put water on a spray bottle instead...You're just wasting your money...it's just water". Is he correct?

I have done a few research about the benefits of facial mists to convince myself *wink wink*

1) Refreshes your skin underneath the makeup.
2) Relaxes you and your skin.
3) Brings instant relief in heat and humidity.
4) Enhances your skin’s moisture balance.
5) Can be used as a mixing medium.

It's summer time in the Philippines again and there are days that you just wanna stay at home coz you can't stand the heat. Or if you're outside, your skin will be so humid...you'll feel the need to wash your face but don't want to ruin your makeup and put it all over again. This is one of those times that I think it's a must to have a facial mist.

I've only tried 2 brands of facial mists: The face shop pure water facial mist in Teju flower scent and The Body Shop Vitamin E facial mist.

The have 3 scents of facial mist available. The one is the Jeju orange scent and I can't recall the other one. I liked the Teju flower scent best coz it's mild.

What it says:

Formulated with pristine water and flower extracts of beautiful Jeju island. This pure water facial mist helps soothe and calms skin.

Price: P300+ / $6+ at any The FaceShop stores.

(I forgot to bring it...Photo from Amazon)

The Body Shop Vitamin E facial mist.

What it says:

Best if you want to: Give your skin an instant pick-me-up with a go-anywhere, rosewater-scented mist that moisturizes, conditions and protects. How it works: Vitamin E is a nourishing natural antioxidant that moisturizes and protects against premature aging and environmental aggressors. Glycerine moisturizes skin to improve softness and maximize hydration. Liposomes and lecithin help skin to quickly absorb vitamin E and restore skin’s natural moisture balance.

Price: P450/$9 at any Body Shop stores. (But I got this for 50% off =D)

I am satisfied with these two products as they both do their job as facial mists. They're not sticky when applied and both help refresh skin and set makeup. But if I'm going to choose only one, I prefer the Body Shop more. It's pricier but I get more benefits from using it coz it contains Vitamin E.

Other facial mists I'd like to try (of course one by one):

Avene Facial Mist
Bench Facial Mist
MAC Charged Water
P&J facial mist..I've tried this when I went to the P&J workshop and I like its smell a lot.

Are you using facial mist too? What brands have you tried?

Hmm..I have used so many facial mists..hmm..Evian, MAC Charged Water, MAC Fix+, Watson's facial mists, Bench Mist..etc..I wouldn't say I see huge results on using them but it is really great in setting your makeup, it's not the same as water, I believe like MAC Charged water, they have caffeine so it boosts you, your skin gets awaken! :)

I've tried Evian and Etude House but honestly I'm not sure if it's better than plain water. I haven't tried using just water though. What really attracts me to these prodcuts is the spray. It evenly distributes the water so the water droplets don't end up being too big. I find it very useful when applying mineral make up. :)

i just recently started to use a facial mist as well..the shu depsea mist and P&J mist, and i think it actually makes a difference. my makeup applies so much more smoothly! i actually didn't know that so many brands came out with mists...maybe i should have tried cheaper brands first XD

I've also tried Evian and MAC Fix+. They do make you feel a bit refreshed but not really that big of a difference.

I'm using La Roche Posay Eau Thermale and I really like it after I apply foundation. When the foundation looks too caked on or fake, I find a quick spritz really helps make everything look more natural.

Hi Nikki! Yeah...I can't say it's a must buy but it's good to have one. I'd really like to try the MAC charged water...I must save for that =D

Hi Sabine! I've heard of Evian and it's affordable..I forgot to include that on my list. Thanks!

Hi MiuMiu! Yeah...I think we should try on cheaper products first and if it works stick to it. It's more worth it.

Hi Aquaracer! I've tried the Fix+ on the makeup workshop I attended before and didn't see a lot of difference too. But it really helps set your makeup.

Hi Psychoexgirlfried...yeah it really does. I like to have that but it's kinda expensive so I'm finishing up those I still have first.

Hi Fuz...yeah I've been your reader for quite a while now. =D Love your blog.

Hi Kim :)

Skip Bench and go for either Shu Uemura, Avene, or MAC Charged Water (Fix+ is kinda sticky). In a pinch I think TFS (we use the same variant--orange) is the best.
