My Father's Day Painting for my Dad

I lost my dad last February. It was so unexpected, and that left me feeling so sad and uninspired. That's when I started learning how to paint. I need to fight those sad emotions because my family needs me every day. With that experience, I can say that painting is great therapy. It still hurts when I think about what happened, but I can honestly say that I'm okay now. I'm just wishing for the peace and happiness of my dad's soul now. This Father's Day, I made him a painting. If he's watching us right now, I know that he knows how much I miss and love him.

How to Paint Waffles using Acrylics

It's another painting for me today. This is one thing that gives me joy after seeing my final work. Since I can't do makeup yet because of the pandemic, painting is a good way to keep my brush skills on point. This time, I painted waffles. I'm in a food phase in painting lately. I did this painting for 3 days (2 hours each) that's why I can only give you a time-lapse video. It'll be too long if I did not do that, haha.

In painting, you just have to have the lightest, medium, and darkest color. I put the colors that I used in each part of the painting which means they're the ones I used to get the gradation of colors.

How to Paint a Rainbow Cake

Rainbow Cake is one of my ultimate favorite desserts, aside from a gooey chocolate caramel cake. It's fun to look at, and very Instagrammable. That's why I chose it as a subject in one of my paintings. I did a video of me while painting this yummy dessert. I hope you'll like the outcome as much as I did.

The wooden board was a little bit challenging to do because of the texture and tiny details. The beauty of acrylics is that you could easily dry them and paint them on top to correct mistakes. You just have to keep on doing it until you get your desired outcome. There are no mistakes in art.

How I Painted a Gibson Guitar

I was asking my husband what subject I should paint next. Then, he requested that I paint something for his music corner. He gave me a reference photo and I challenged myself to do it. To be honest, I'm more inclined in doing food and nature paintings. Painting a guitar requires too many small details that made it a little hard to do. I created this time-lapse video to show you the general process of doing it.

The colors and brands of the acrylic paints I used are in the video already. For the brushes, I used a cheap set of nail art brushes for the tiny details.

My husband loved the outcome. Let me know what you think!

How to Paint a Pizza Using Acrylics

It was only last February 2021 that I started to paint. I want something educational as a Christmas gift for my baby girl, so I bought her some painting stuff that time. That includes a good painting book, brushes, acrylic paints, and a small canvas. I wanted to teach her properly so I studied by watching tutorials on Youtube and Linkedin Learning.  Since then, I painted almost every day. I wished I was given an opportunity like this when I was little, but it's not yet too late for me, right?

If you want to see all of the paintings I've done in a span of 4 months, I post them on my IG art account, @kimrodzart

As for my latest work, it's my first time doing a time-lapse video of me painting something. It was quite a challenge because of the limited space that I have at home, but it turned out fine in my opinion.

Brands that I used:

Revel Acrylic Paints
Liquitex
Giorgio
Focus

Colors that I used:

Background:

A mix of blue, red, white

Pizza:

Yellow, White, and a little bit of Burnt Sienna for the crust
Burnt Sienna and Red for the Sauce
Mid Yellow, White, and a little Red for the Cheese
Raw Umber for the burnt cheese part

Garnish:

Tomatoes - Primary Red, mixed with little Mars Black for the shadows and Titanium White for the highlights

Thyme - Sap Green and White

Tomato - Primary Red, Cad Orange (Black and White for the shadows and highlights)

It was a fun painting to do. It was challenging to take a video while painting, but I'm happy that I did it. I hope you like it. Follow my Facebook and Instagram art accounts, for more updates about my work.

Free Games Kids Can Play At Home

In my recent post, I've mentioned the things that we do to make our stay at home productive. One of the key points there is letting my kids use their gadgets for games 2 hours a day. They play games like Roblox so they could interact and have fun with their cousins and friends virtually. However, those kinds of games are not the type I grew up with. To be honest, I prefer the games I played when I was a child that makes the player think deeply. Recently, I discovered Plays.org. It's a website where you can play a lot of simple and free games.

Remember the games we used to play before the Ipads were invented? I'm talking about Pacman, Tetris, Word Find, Bomber Man...I think you can find similar games to that here.

What I like about it:

  • There are over a hundred free games to choose from. Everything is categorized so you can easily choose what piques your interest.
  • I like the simple games you can find on the website. I miss the old games that I play in the '80s and '90s. They're easy but require you to use your logic in order to accomplish something. My baby is currently practicing her typing skills again. Her current favorite is the Zombie Typing Game. It's amazing how she could reach a high level at an early age.
  • There's no need for you to install any games on your computer. Everything is browser-based online games. The current one I'm using is not too powerful that's why I don't like installing a lot of apps on it. It's amazing that my kids can play hundreds of games without affecting our computer storage usage.
  • I prefer games that make you think. That includes Tetris, puzzles, logical games, and mystery games. If your interest is like mine, check out the site to see if there are games you'll like too.
  • You'll see the games' ratings. It helps you choose what most people play on the site.
  • New games are constantly added.
Since everything is browser-based, you have to expect that you'll wait for a while for a game to load. In my experience, it only takes seconds to load one.

It's still indefinite until when we're going to do everything online. I'm grateful for these kinds of things that help us cope up and be entertained despite what's happening around us. When playing games, always guide your children to ensure that what they're playing is appropriate for their age.

How to Find the Best School Districts

When moving to a new area, whether you already have kids or are planning on it,
one of the biggest factors is going to be the school districts that you put them through.

Education means everything, especially early on in a child’s life. It’s important that you put them in the right environment to thrive and learn as much as they can.

Whether you are looking for Ottawa homes for sale in Canada, or somewhere in another country, something to consider are the school districts that exist before you make the final call on buying your new home.

Poll the Neighborhood

Chances are you are visiting these areas that you could potentially be moving to. That means

meeting potential neighbors and even visiting some of the local restaurants, coffee shops,

and more. While you are there, make some friends. Ask them about the area and the school districts.

These people will know best as they’ve been living in the area for some time now.

Trust the information they are giving you about the school districts and what your options on for schooling. Keep this information top of mind, as it will be useful when you are doing further research.

Conduct Online Research

Google is a human’s best friend. Okay, not literally, but to provide information it is.

Do a quick online search of the area and the schooling options for elementary all the way

through high school. Does the school district have an online presence?

Does it look like they are making the proper effort

to make the halls a safer and better place during what are tough times today in the 2020s?

Do they have extracurricular activities such as sports?

Make a table weighing all of the pros and cons of each school district to help you feel comfortable about moving to this area and the school your child will be enrolled in.

Weigh All Your Options

Weighing all your options will include not only the physical districts, but at-home learning as well. Homeschooling is becoming more and more popular today. Do some of these districts offer that option? If they do, is your child still able to do the extracurricular activities?

It’s definitely an option to consider. You may love the area so much but not love the schooling options. The option of homeschooling could give you the freedom to still move to your dream home in you dream city, but give you the ability to get your child the best education they can have. It’s not the ideal choice as school is where kids meet some of their life’s best friends. However, the tip here is to simply weigh all of your options.
